It’s clear that singer Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil step to the beat of a different drum. The young couple just tied the knot in May 2007, and has spent the majority of their first year of marriage talking through iron bars. Fielder was arrested shortly following their matrimonial union for beating up another man in a UK bar. Since that fateful day, Winehouse has been seen hanging around Pentonville Prison on Friday’s (her designated visitation days) sporting a heart etched with Blake’s name in her beehive.

On their one-year anniversary, Winehouse was by Fielder’s side doing her best to make the day romantic. She wore a grey pencil skirt with a black belt and black collared shirt. The only thing that was lacking was the champagne and strawberries, but Winehouse improvised and managed to make it a special occasion. Although both are hopeful that is the first and last wedding anniversary that they will spend together in a jail cell, Fielder-Civil is still awaiting the trial for charges of assault and attempt to perverse the course of justice.

Although time apart seems painful, the young couple has been on and off again for so long that many friends believe that space may be just what they need. Even Winehouse has openly admitted to being violent towards Fielder-Civil, especially when intoxicated. In 2007 she told World Entertainment News Network, “I’ll beat up Blake when I’m drunk. I don’t think I have ever bruised him, but I do have my way. If he says one thing I don’t like then I’ll chin him.”

Just last August, Winehouse and Fielder-Civil were found in the streets of London bloodied and bruised after an alleged that neither one could recall in detail. This is not unlike Winehouse’s character; the singer has been battling substance abuse, depression, and an eating disorder for the past few years. Winehouse is doing so poorly that she failed to make it to the Icor Novello Awards where her father was forced to accept an award for her. “Amy unfortunately couldn’t make it. She’s getting better, and she sends you all her love,” Mitch Winehouse announced as he picked up the award for “Love is a Losing Game.”

Although she is still facing a barrage of personal problems, Winehouse has agreed to perform at the Glastonbury Music Festival in Somerset, England. According to the Glastonbury rep, Emily Eavis, this year’s festival will be “one of the biggest sets of the summer, supporting the most anticipated artist in . . . in the past 38 years.”
