New Ideas for Entertaining Your Guests

By Georgina Clatworthy

Traditionally wedding entertainment consisted of a band, disco or harpist, amongst others. These days event companies can provide a welath of alternatives to the traditional. Take a look at these suggestions to wow your guests on you wedding day.

Hire a Magician

We are not talking about a man in a top hat pulling rabbits & doves out from vairous unseen places, but rather someone who will walk around your reception tables & perfom tricks with cards to the delight of your guests.

Set Up a Fun Casino

The key here is that you get all the fun of a real casino but with playing for real money. On the downside you are unlikely to become a millionaire on your wedding day! Give your guests fun casino money as an alternative to a traditional favor. You could even print pictures of yourselves on the notes!

Employ a Look-a-Like

Ever fancied having Brad Pitt or Elvis Presley walking around your reception? Hiring a look-a-like is a great idea for a cocktail party or a glamourous hollywood theme. Set up a photo booth were your guests can have pictures taken of themselves with some famous faces. You can have fun watching how many of your guests take second glances before they realise it's not really them!

The Ceilidh

This is a msut have for a Scottish wedding. A ceilidh is energetic Scottish formation dancing. Great if you want a lively reception with lots of guest participation. As an alternative to a disco this will certainly get all ages up on the dance floor!

Comission an Ice Sculpture

Although not strictly entertainment, an ice sculpture will certainly give your guests something to talk about. Have one made to use as centerpiece for the evening buffet & arrange your food around it. They can be anything from champagne buckets, candle holders or large sculptures such as castles or swans. For something really different, ask for a Vodka luge!

Chocolate Fountains

Perhaps these seem a little kitsch these days but they are certainly fun & can form an impressive centerpiece to your evening buffet. Make sure it is up & running in plenty of time & have plenty of choice things such as fruit & marshmallows for guests to dip in. You can hire them in & prices will include delivery, setting up, chocolate & possibly the accompaniments. Or you could buy your own, as they are now readily available on the high street, with the added benefit that you get to take it home afterwards!
