For many couples the honeymoon represents an opportunity to visit places they have only ever dreamed of, the once in a lifetime trip. But depending on your travel aspirations, your honeymoon can form a significant part of your wedding budget (although some would argue it should be separate), so a few cheap honeymoon ideas would not go amiss when it comes to making the budget stretch.

If you are after the holiday of a lifetime but need to make your budget fit, then here are some cheap honeymoon ideas to help you get the best deal for your dollars.

• Shop Around: The internet gives you the perfect tool for comparing prices and getting ideas for holiday packages, but ask at your local travel agency as well as they can often have very competitive prices. Try to obtain a few quotes before making a final decision and remember, cheapest is not always the best so look at value for money as well as total cost.
  
• Go Online: As well as being a good source for cheap prices, the internet can offer honeymoon packages that many travel agencies cannot and with online booking the process is quick and easy. In many cases you can also save money by booking online too.
  
• Be Flexible: If you want a cheap honeymoon then consider travelling off peak and outside of the more popular holiday months – this can also have the added benefit of resorts and hotels being quieter. Other ideas include looking at midweek flights or late night/early morning departures which are usually cheaper than weekend or midday flights.
  
• Look Smart: You maybe able to score a flight upgrade if you look smartly dressed and as if you belong in first class!
  
• Indulge: Consider booking a luxury resort but staying fewer nights for a cheap honeymoon.
  
• Go All-Inclusive: If money is tight then choosing an all-inclusive option could be cheaper than choosing half board, for instance. With an all-inclusive option you will have all your meals, drinks and other facilities included in the price.
  
• Announce it: Let everyone know you are on your honeymoon, you never know what might come your way in terms of freebies and exclusive offers.
