A popular trend for weddings for many years is having your wedding close to or on a holiday. Whether you choose Valentine’s Day, Christmas, the 4th of July or another popular holiday – holiday weddings are fun and festive. For many, holiday weddings can be the ideal choice. There are some great reasons to choose – or not to choose – a holiday wedding.

One of the best reasons to choose a holiday wedding is for sentimental reasons. For most of us, holidays are very sentimental times. Valentine’s Day is a very romantic day. Christmas is a day when families gather to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. The 4th of July is a very patriotic day, especially ideal for military weddings. Your holiday wedding can be special and fun.

One of the biggest challenges of a holiday themed wedding is often the expense. You can expect flowers during Valentine’s Day to be very high priced, much higher than they would be at most other times of year. Travel for your guests and your honeymoon will be more expensive during Christmas. Reserving a reception hall for the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve will probably be more expensive. Expect to pay more for some – or most – of your wedding related expenses if you choose a holiday themed wedding.

Many brides and grooms like a holiday themed wedding because it’s easy for everyone to remember your wedding day. It can make celebrating that holiday even more special for everyone. A Valentine’s Day wedding can make the day even more romantic for everyone that attends, whether married or single. A New Year’s Eve wedding can be a special way to ring in the coming year for everyone who attends.

But keep in mind that if you choose a holiday for your wedding that some of your guests may have conflicting plans. That some of your family and friends may be unable to attend. This can be a great disappointment, but is expected when you choose a holiday for the day of your wedding. The majority of us have holiday plans – and those plans can be hard to change even with plenty of notice in advance.

A popular reason to choose a holiday for your wedding is this will mean your wedding anniversary will always be that holiday. Some wives might wink and smile, saying “Oh, he’ll never forget our anniversary now.” All kidding aside, this is a fantastic idea as many holidays are vacation days. You can easily plan to take a romantic long weekend or getaway for your wedding anniversary. Not only is it a holiday but it makes your wedding anniversary even more special.

No matter what day you choose – holiday or any other day of year – your wedding with always be special and a day you’ll always remember.
