Celeb wedding watchers are a buzz, with the exciting news that KISS bassist Gene Simmons wed the lovely Shannon Tweed recently in Beverly Hills, CA. What’s even more lovely according to CKOM.com, bride Tweed requested publicly that well wishers could make a donation to the Saskatoon SPCA – instead of buying a wedding gift. And the Saskatoon SPCA has received some wonderful donations!
According to Tiffany Koback, of the SPCA, they have received $5,700 so far. Many members of Tweed’s family have come in to make donations. The SPCA cares for about 5,000 animals each year. The wedding donations will help pay for animal medical care, equipment and also to improve the kennel room.
Asking guests and well wishers to make a donation to charity can often be the ideal solution for many newly wed couples. Especially the newly wed couple who has lived together for awhile, and doesn’t need the items a couple would need to start their life together – that you typically buy for a wedding.
A charity donation is also perfect for the couple who wants to help others in some way as they come together as a couple. Some couples like to do volunteer work or help in the community, and choosing to have donations go to a charity seems like the ideal choice.
Whether this is your second marriage, blending households or you just would prefer to make a difference, many couples today like to choose to be charitable on their wedding day. Knowing that your friends and family will be helping a charity that matters to you is inspiring and can give you a great “warm fuzzy” feeling, that is far better than getting a toaster oven or fancy towel set.
There are many charities ideal to choose for so many reasons. Just as Tweed selected the SPCA, it is typically best to choose a charity that is close to your heart in some way. If you are unsure of what charity to pick, try asking close family members and friends for ideas to pick a charity. Then do some research and decide on which charity would be best for you.
