The internet is probably the first place you are going to go to look for ideas for your wedding, including your wedding dress. But should you ever consider buying online wedding dresses? Here are the reasons both for and against buying online, so you can decide for yourself.
Why you should buy online wedding dresses:
• Buying online means you can purchase dresses at prices much cheaper than in physical stores. Websites do not have the same level of overheads as bricks and mortar stores which means they can pass the savings on to you.
• You can browse many more designs and styles than you can in store and from the comfort of your own home.
• You can look at wedding dresses anywhere in the world and order at anytime of the day or night.
• You can take your time making your decision and will not be under any pressure to choose or need to make lots of appointments to try dresses on.
Why you shouldn’t buy wedding dresses online:
• You cannot physically see the dresses you are interested in and will not know the quality of the manufacture until you receive it.
• You cannot try dresses on before you order and making returns can be difficult.
• You will not have the same level of in-store service or advice on the right styles for your bodyshape or budget.
• You will need to find your own seamstress to be able to make alterations and at extra cost.
• The dress you receive may not be the one you order or could look very different to the one you saw on screen. Meaning you may have to return it and find another one, taking more time out of your precious wedding planning.
• You cannot be sure a website is reputable or even genuine, particularly if they are offering designer dresses at unbelievably cheap prices.
• Some sites do not offer a money back guarantee and you could be left with a dress you do not want.
Purchasing wedding dresses online is becoming increasingly popular, especially as budgets have been hit by the economic downturn. However, it is a risky strategy and you will be committed to purchasing a dress before you can even try it on. A good strategy is to identify designs online, visit a bridal store which stocks them to try them on and if the online price is good, order from them rather than the store. Do however, price up the cost of alterations, as these can add a hefty amount to your total cost which could result in the in-store dress being cheaper because alterations are included in the price!
Finally, if you do want to purchase online check out the website first and make sure it is credible and reputable. Always pay with a credit card so you have some payment protection should something go wrong and you need to get your money back. Also check out the shipping terms and always pay extra for insured shipping in case it goes astray.
