Renewing wedding vows is becoming a popular choice with couples especially with the likes of Heidi Klum and Seal (who do it every year) showing how romantic it can be to relive your wedding day. Whether you renew your vows on your first or tenth anniversaries, make sure it is a day to remember just like the first one was.
If you are thinking about renewing wedding vows on a special anniversary or just because you are hopeless romantics there are some things you need to consider. Whilst this renewing your vows does not need to be the huge occasion your wedding was or cost as much, you will want to make it special, so think about who should be present, where it will take place and what you will do afterwards.
You can renew your wedding vows through either a religious service or a civil one, the choice is yours. You may want to go back to the place where you were married originally or choose someone local to you now. You are also free to renew the same vows you made to each other on your wedding day or to write new ones which you feel are more applicable to your relationship. Some couples also like to exchange rings during the service, which could be eternity rings or new wedding rings.
It can be difficult to know just how far you take the occasion. Do you make it a formal affair and invite all your friends and family or do you have something more low key with just you and your immediate family present? Do you wear formal attire or something casual? When it comes to renewing your wedding vows you can design the day anyway you want and if you wanted to wear full wedding regalia that is entirely up to you!
There are those that feel that renewing your vows should be kept informal and personal, but if you had a low key wedding you may want to push the boat out this time and make it a much bigger occasion.Do consider though that the whole point of renewing your vows is to concentrate the day on doing just that and not about throwing a big party you dont need to renew your wedding vows to do that. You should also avoid having attendants, registering for a gift list or asking for gifts and throwing any pre occasion parties!
Renewing your wedding vows should be an occasion that is special and memorable to you both and perhaps more about the two of you than your wedding day was. When planning the occasion you should focus on what is important to both of you and where your relationship is at at the present time.
