Informing your guests of the wedding date to your momentous occasion months in advance is very important, especially for those who are coming from out-of-town. If you're having a destination wedding or are planning your matrimonial event in an area which necessitates that your guests stay in a more than affordable hotel, they are going to need longer than a month's notice. Additionally, if you're planning on having some of the guests attend the rehearsal dinner and or an after-wedding celebration, you need to let them know prior so they can schedule their trip accordingly. It would be a waste of time and money to plan a beautiful rehearsal dinner and tea-party brunch and only have some of the guests attend.
There are many ways to send a “save the date” notice; you could send an actual invitation or present it in the form of a small party favor. Although the printed invites are cheaper, “save the date” gifts are much more useful and will help keep the wedding day in your guest's mind. There are a few companies that are capable of producing eye-catching and dynamic “save the date” magnets. With these colorful magnets displayed on every refrigerator, you can be sure that everyone will remember to attend.
Whether you decide to convey the message through stationary or magnet form is entirely up to you. However, depending on the company you choose, the price difference isn't very substantial, so check out the various wedding favor vendors and compare their prices before making a decision. The end-product may tend to look very similar in regard to appearance, but if you're only saving a dollar per magnet and settling for something that is less quality, why bother? If you're going to spend the time and money investing in a wedding gift you may as well get something that will endure the seasons.
Some of the better companies can incorporate you and your partner's photos on the magnet, along with a small message and the wedding date. These are wonderful, but try to stray from anything that's too busy; the date is the most important element of the wedding favor and you want that, not your smiling face, to be in their mind. You should try to deviate from any “save the date” gifts, or all wedding invitations in general, that have flair which overshadows the important information. Sure, small accents and pictorial embellishments are pretty, but in this case, less is more. You want something that is simple and elegant. Overkill on the colors and ornaments will make your gifts look haphazardly childish.
It's all right to take more creative liberties with this gift since you're already sending out a formal wedding invitation a month before the big day. Although magnets are one of the most practical options, there are many more to choose from. You could do something a little more sophisticated and go with a magnet shadow box card. These come in the form of cards but then can be attached to the refrigerator. You could send out a glossy postcard with you and your partner superimposed on a picture of your honeymoon destination. On the back you can have a little message printed with the dates they need to know and a “hope to see you there” as a header.
The “save the date” messages don't have to coordinate with your theme, but it's good to be consistent in regard to your wedding. If you're doing a beach theme or fall event, then try to stick with a favor that incorporates this or at least utilizes the wedding colors you've selected. The mistake that many people make is believing that the festivities begin on the day of the wedding; when in actuality, they commence the moment you send out the first invitation.
