Ideally, your bridal bouquet should enhance your look and complement your gown-and not overpower either. There is, however, no rule of thumb that you must carry the traditional bouquet of white roses arranged in circle. Instead, why not choose a bunch of loose long stems, wrapped with a long velvet ribbon? Or a cascade of assorted flowers and greenery? Or even a bouquet bundled in a lace that matches your dress? You can also choose flowers that have a special meaning to you: maybe blooms that are native to your hometown or the daffodils your fiancé picked for you on your first date. Or perhaps your bouquet can reflect a theme or season, such as sunflowers in summer; red for the holidays or autumn colors; leaves, and berries for fall. A good florist can offer you many options, from classic to avant garde. Here are a few possibilities:
Cascade- Blossoms are woven into a waterfall effect, so when carried in the bride’s hand, the bouquet dramatically flows down the front of her gown. This style usually incorporates such greenery as ivy and smaller flowers mixed with roses. Because of its size and length, it looks best with a full ball-gown skirt.
Loose-Tied- This bouquet looks as if the flowers were picked fresh out of your garden. The blooms are bunched together and secured with a ribbon around the middle of the stems. This bride carries the bouquet by the stems with two hands.
Presentation Bouquet- Think of a beauty pageant winner, striding across the stage with a large bouquet of flowers resting on her arm. For this look, brides usually choose roses and have florists tie them loosely together in a lush arrangement, so that when carried, they delicately spill from shoulder to wrist. Your bouquet can be as intricate as you wish, adding ribbon or lace to match your gown.
Round Bouquet/Nosegay- The most traditional bridal bouquet, a nosegay consists of a round cluster of blooms, usually roses. Another option is to mix flowers and to attach lace or tulle behind the bouquet for added embellishment. The stems are usually hidden in a plastic cone or fastener for the bride to hold.
The bridal bouquet, which is held by the bride during the entire wedding ceremony, is an important wedding aspect that should be placed some emphasis on because it accentuates the wedding gown and adds beauty and sophistication to the bride’s overall look.
