When it comes to wedding themes the 1920’s and 30’s seem to provide many couples with the perfect inspiration for their wedding day. I have to confess a love for all things Art Deco myself and the sublime elegance of this design era does make it a perfect fit for a wedding. But whilst some couples manage to pull off a beautiful deco theme, others fall foul of poor research and choose completely the wrong color schemes to fit with their 30’s inspired theme.

Never fear though, before you fall into the same trap, here are four Art Deco wedding color schemes to help inspire you and coordinate all your other details.

1. Black, Gold and Ivory: black and white is often classically associated with Art Deco, but for a wedding I think a softer ivory tone is a better choice. With color schemes based on these three choices you should make the ivory you main color, black as secondary and gold as your highlighting, picking out the little details such as gold cutlery, gold fonts on the stationery and gold napkins.

2. Champagne, Deep Purple and Gold: choose a soft Champagne tone for your main color and accent with colors of rich deep purple and soft gold. You can also add in other decorative details such as crystal glasses and mirrored silver candle holders and vases.

3. Rich Red, White and Black: this is a classic Art Deco combination and the rich red tones balance out the white, whilst black details are striking against the other two colors. Other details can again be in soft gold, silver or glass.

4. Ivory, Black and Silver: although similar to the first color combination, this one is particularly suited to schemes where a glitzy, glamorous theme is the aim. Use equal amounts of ivory and black and accent with glitzy details in mirrored glass and silver. Champagne also works well with black and silver.

Incorporating a theme is important to helping in the planning process, especially if you are starting from a clean slate. We think about our weddings all of our lives, but then the day actually comes and we're blank. At least I was. I found it particularly helpful to pour over blogs, magazines and books. Tons of inspiration can be found. I loved The “W” Day: Stylish and Fabulous Ideas for Celebrating the Modern Wedding Vision by Giulia Macchia. What helped me the most were her music choices i.e. ideas, themes and checklists.
