When we tell people about our wedding we are not only announcing a celebration, but the beginning of two lives in common therefore invitations are the reflection of this and they are extremely important as they give others an insight into what the wedding will be. Invitations need not be so formal. Here are some good alternatives that will make the first impression a lasting one.

Caricature Invitations

Have an artist draw up caricatures of the bride and groom dressed in wedding gown and tuxedo. They could be portrayed with their arms outstretched and fingers pointing at the reader with the caption “We want YOU”. Upon opening the card, the guests get the rest of the message:…To attend our wedding and have a great time! A pen and ink drawing will provide better quality than a pencil drawing will provide better quality than a pencil caricature.

Fairy Tale Invitation

Who says Cinderella doesn’t live today? Visualize a four-page fold out, story book, or fairy tale style invitation. Using pictures and words, the brief story can trace the story of the boy and the girl, how they met and eventually fell in love. Inside the invitation you can tell the guest where and when the wedding will take place. Use old English or colloquial language to make the invitations distinct.

Handmade Paper Invitation

Handmade papers can be utilized as borders, paper-parchment folders or in a number of intriguing ways. These papers come in a variety of styles, each possessing its own distinctive elements. For example, floral paper expresses a romantic feeling; glitter paper glimmers with a fun, contemporary look; parfait paper creates a sophisticated, refined impression. Because handmade paper must be individually made, each invitation is, by definition, one-of-a-kind!

Photographic Invitation

Remember those Christian greeting cards with photos of the family on them? Well a similar card style can be done for wedding invitations. Get a good portrait artist to do a photo of the bride and groom either alone or with their families. Then, have this photo transferred to the front of the invitation.

Poetry Invitation

Create something unique that works within the more traditional wedding invitation format. How about a poem or song? Whether the poem is original or found, a poem can easily be incorporated into the invitation. So have fun finding the words that express your feelings!

A wedding is a celebration and the invitation must show that we want that person to join in with us.
