The When, Why & Who For Your Wedding Attire

By Georgina Clatworthy

With any luck you will have an organsied bestman who is totally on top of his duties & responsibilities as your best man. If you have then you have no need to worry about all the day to day practicalities, however, if you haven't, then you should take the time to read on....

When is the best time to order your suit?

The time of year in which you marry will be important when it comes to ordering your suit. Weddings take place all year round but the traditional months of may to september are the busiest & so suit hire companies will be in high demand. January to April/May is the busiest time for bookings at hire companies, so its good advice not to leave it to last minute or you could be disappointed. In the high season there are also a number of other events which will place extra demand on the hire companies, such as race meetings. You should also get in early if you want to hire a number of identical suits for your groomsmen.

Are there any potential pitfalls?

Take into consideration the various sizes you will require. If you need very large sizes or smaller junior versions you may have to source them from elsewhere.

When should you collect your suit?

It is usual for your suit(s) to available for collection around 7 to 10 days before your wedding day. A final fitting would be advisable to be sure that all sizes are correct & that no-one has lost or gained too much weight. Do not wait until the eve of your wedding to collect your suits.

When does it need to be returned?

This certainly is a job for your best man & it is usual to return your suit(s) on the first working day after your wedding. Ask your best man to take care of this as obviously you will not be available!

What happens if any of the outfits are damaged?

Check your rental agreement & see if there is an accidental damage waiver payable along with the hire fee. This will cover any rips, tears & marks to the clothing but may not include top hats as many get lost through the custom of throwing them in the air! Don't try to repair any rips or remove any marks or stains, as you are more likely to make them worse. Accept the consequences & leave the cleaning to the hire company.
