Couples spend lots of time planning their wedding, but it is just as important to take the time to plan a great honeymoon. It’s easier than ever to jet set around the world, traveling to just about any destination you choose. But couples do need to take the time to plan that great honeymoon and to select the ideal destination.

For some couples, traveling to a beautiful beach is their perfect choice. Others would rather sightsee, visiting museums, theatre and other popular attractions. One honeymoon trip that would appeal to one couple might not appeal to another. Take the time to visit travel and local tourist websites to learn more about each destination that interests you.

The best honeymoon destination is often one where there are several activities that interest you. What will you do if it rains most of the time during your beach themed honeymoon? If you choose a beachy destination that has fun activities that don’t rely on the beach, you’ll have lots to do and enjoy. But if all of your activities center around the beach, then finding entertainment may be a bit more challenging.

Try to work together as a couple to plan your honeymoon. It used to be, for many couples this was the first vacation they took together. For today’s couples, many have already been on vacations or trips together. But your honeymoon is special and should be treated as such, not “just” another vacation you’ll have.

Plan some special activities for the two of you as a couple. Your honeymoon is a time to do special things together. A challenge some face in planning their honeymoon is that sometimes in a couple, one is a saver and another is a spender. The saver and spender should work together to decide what to indulge in. A couples massage or golf lessons are often popular choices. The best indulgences are ones that you can do together as a couple.

Don’t expect your honeymoon to be perfect. Most of us have taken a vacation before. Things happen! Your luggage gets lost, the plane is late, some fun activities aren’t as fun as you would like them to be. While your honeymoon is special, not every activity is going to be as perfect as you would hope it to be. Knowing that things will not be perfect can help you to have realistic expectations for your honeymoon, and will help you to actually have a better time.

Bring back a souvenir you’ll always enjoy. There are many different types of souvenirs you can find on a vacation, but probably the best you can bring back from your honeymoon is something you’ll enjoy and will remind you of this special first vacation as a married couple. Think of purchasing original artwork, handicrafts, jewelry, furniture or something that you can place in your new home together. Every time you see this souvenir, you’ll be reminded of your honeymoon together as a newlywed couple.
