Aretha Franklin and her longtime friend and companion Willie Wilkerson have not been engaged long. Announcing their intentions to tie the knot only this winter, they have now said the whole thing is being called off.
Originally, they had been intending a simple but luxurious summer wedding on a cruise ship in June or July.
But today, Aretha posted on her Facebook that the two have decided that they won't be going through with it "at this time".
"Regretfully, To Our Friends and Supporters:
"Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time," the statement read.
"We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends."
I find the assertion of things moving too fast a little strange. They have known each other a long time, and she has been married something like four times before.
Oh well, hopefully things work out best for the two.
