Not everyone wants a super elegant, elaborate wedding. In fact, quite a lot of us prefer such affairs to be simple and fun, keeping the entire tone as casual as possible. I know that I was one of those brides, and I am sure there are plenty of others reading this now who agree.
But just because you want it casual doesn't mean it isn't special. So here are a couple of ideas to get your creative juices flowing on your own fun, simple event.
The Courthouse Wedding
This is what I did. My husband and I got together with a couple of close family members, dressed up and headed down to the courthouse. I wore a black skirt, stockings and a red, velvet shirt that looked somewhat similar to a pirate. Which was prettier than it sounds. My husband wore a matching red button up shirt and black pants.
Afterward, we went to a nearby Olive Garden where we had reserved about half of the restaurant. Friends and family came, ate, drank and brought gifts. It was affordable, fun and very casual...half of our guests were in jeans.
I wouldn't have had it any other way.
The Outdoor Wedding
If it is Spring or Summer, an outdoor wedding can be beautiful and simple, just by its location. Whether you choose a backyard, a local park, a church courtyard or even the beach, you can set up chairs and an alter, and have a gorgeous event with little effort.
I knew someone who married on a beach with her husband, wearing a sundress and him an open shirt and cargo shorts. They all boiled their own crabs, and fire smokes oysters, drinking by the sea well past sundown. It was a wonderful ceremony and reception.
The Vegas Wedding
That's right, I went there. Tacky, over the top and undeniably hilarious, a Vegas wedding can offer you a lot more than you think. Hit the chapel, and then spend the reception enjoying the elaborate buffets, Vegas shows and casinos. It will definitely make an impression, and give you a memory to cherish.
