• New York Hosts First Gay Wedding Expo

After legalizing gay marriage in the state last year, the market in New York is ripe for weddings catered to the tastes of the homosexual community. Now, the first wedding expo aimed specifically at same-sex couples is being held in Brooklyn.

UK newspaper The Guardian traveled to the Borough Hall expo to speak to couples who were searching through the many vendors as they planned their big day.

One such couple was Seth Slade and Marc Peloquim, two men in their forties who have been officially engaged for more than 14 years and have raised a child together.

"There's a lot to take in. But it is very exciting to be planning a wedding – our daughter is 17 and too old to be a flower girl, but she's a writer, so we're going to ask her to write something for the ceremony," Slade told the paper.

There were 75 businesses signed on for the expo, who offered their planning services, products and expertise to the couples flocking to the event.

Hosted by Brooklyn Community Pride Center, the proceeds will go to improving the center and resources for local GLBT citizens, and putting on other events in the future.

While it is the first of its kind in the state, it won't be the last. New York is quickly becoming the 'It' destination for gay weddings and glamorous honeymoons, and it might be one of the biggest tourist draws to the region for a long time.
