Sometimes knowing what NOT to do is more fundamental than knowing what you should do. One bad idea could spiral out of control very quickly. If you're uncertain as to what kind of cake would look best, consult your bakery for some advice. However, it's important that you don't leave all of the decision-making up to them. You could ask for a brown and pink cake and end up with something quite hideous.

There are two aspects to a cake that need to be taken into consideration. The first is color. The prettiest design would look atrocious if adorned with unflattering colors. The cake should correspond with your wedding color scheme in an aesthetic way. It's quite possible to make any color combination work together, it's all dependent on how and in what amount the colors are used. Integrate other colors into the mix to give the cake some variation. A good rule of thumb is: if it radiates more than the bride, it's a potential problem.

The next essential aspect is the design. This component of the wedding cake is heavily reliant on the talents of your bakery. This is why it's cardinal that you select somebody that you trust. A handful of unhappy brides were devastated on their wedding day when they were presented with something other than what they had in mind. One couple received a cake that looked like bird poop, while another ended up with a cake covered in leaves shaped like bats. And both of these mishaps were entirely the bakery's fault.

If you're short on funds, attempting to create your own wedding cake is entirely understandable. Having said that, it's still of the utmost importance that you put some time and thought into it. Trying to figure these things out last minute could be disastrous. If you don't think you're capable of creating something relatively eye-catchy, it would be in your best interest to pool your family for cake donations. It doesn't cost a lot of money to have the local supermarket create something, and this way you save yourself the headache of trying to make the castle theme work!

Make sure that you collaborate closely with your bakery so that you know exactly what to expect on your wedding day. Figure out everything from the flavor to the wedding cake embellishments. You may come across as a tad high-maintenance, but at least you know that you're getting exactly what you pay for!
